The 15th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (short name: Auto China 2018) was opened on April 25, 2018. In preparation for China’s new NEV regulations which will make NEV production mandatory from 2019, automakers showcased a number of NEV models. Connected and autonomous driving technologies increased their presence at the show as well.

Among western automakers, VW’s subsidiary Audi held world premiere of the long-wheelbase Q5L which was exclusively developed for the Chinese market. Škoda held world premiere of the Kamiq SUV which was jointly developed with SAIC Group. BMW held world premiere of the M2 Competition. In addition, JLR announced the China-made E-Pace and Ford unveiled the next-gen Focus.

Looking at Japanese manufacturers, companies are focusing on the launch of NEV models. Toyota held world premiere of the PHEV version of the Corolla and Levin. In addition, the automaker launched the Izoa through its local joint venture FAW Toyota and the C-HR through its other local joint venture GAC Toyota. Both SUV models were developed based on the automaker’s modular unibody automobile platform TNGA. GAC Honda’s joint venture brand the Everus unveiled the EV Concept model. Nissan held world premiere of the BEV version of the Sylphy.

As for Chinese automakers, SAIC Group unveiled a concept SUV model of the MG brand. FAW introduced the Besturn Senia R9 C-segment SUV. BAIC Group unveiled the upgraded Senova D70. Geely launched the MHEV and PHEV versions of the Borui GE. In addition, Nio, Yudo and other newcomers unveiled BEV concept models for the first time.
