The 26th GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (short name: GIIAS 2018) was held between August 2 and 12 at the International Convention Exhibition, BSD City (ICE-BSD City) some 30km from the capital Jakarta. At Indonesia’s 26th auto show, the country’s president Joko Widodo made an appearance at the opening ceremony on August 2nd. In his opening speech, the president emphasized the importance of the automotive industry for the economy and touched upon current trends such as electrification and connectivity. In addition, Joko Widodo introduced Indonesia’s self-developed utility vehicle the AMMDes and formally announced the introduction of B20 biodiesel fuel.

Looking at new models announced at the show, Honda held world premiere of the fully-upgraded Brio small hatchback. In the stagnating Indonesian market which has been hovering around 1.1 million units almost no other automakers made new announcements. Mitsubishi, whose Xpander has been selling well, unveiled the e-Evolution Concept. Toyota displayed the Concept-I and Honda, apart from the new Brio, introduced the facelifted HR-V. In addition to the new Brio of the Brio series, which is developed primarily for the Indonesian market, the LCGC-compliant new Brio Satya made a debut as well. Compared to the existing model, its wheelbase has been stretched giving more legroom in the back. The model is scheduled to be launched in Indonesia in October 2018. Nissan show off the Terra and Datsun GO live and Daihatsu put on display the new Terios Custom. Suzuki tried to woo spectators with sporty models, but instead the Jimny captured more attention. Chevrolet presented the new Trailblazer and new Spark to the public. Chinese players also increased their presence. DFSK showed off the Glory 850 seven-seater SUV. In addition to the Confero S and Cortez, Wuling displayed the E100 electric model, possibly to launch it in the Indonesian market following announcement of the government’s electric vehicle policy.
