The 12th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (short name: Auto China 2012) was opened on April 23, 2012 and held at both the old and new venue of the China International Exhibition Center. Press days on April 23rd and 24th were followed by industry days on the 25th and 26th and public days from April 27th to May 2nd. At the new venue, passenger and commercial vehicles were exhibited, while automotive parts and related products were exhibited at the old site. Site old of all booths took up 230,000m², the largest area compared to previous auto shows held in Beijing.

The main theme of this motor show was “Innovation Leap” and around 2,000 automotive industry-related companies participated at the event, exhibiting 1,125 vehicles. Out of the 1,125 vehicles, there were 120 world premiere models (36 foreign and 84 Chinese), 35 Asia premiere models (all foreign), 74 concept vehicles and 88 new-energy vehicles.

The show was attended by top people from various automakers, such as Daimler AG chairman and Mercedes-Benz Cars head Dieter Zetsche and BMW Group sales and marketing head Ian Robertson, introducing new products and announcing future business strategies for the Chinese market. Although the Chinese automobile market is transforming from high growth to stable growth, continued expansion in demand is anticipated in the long term. As a result, global automakers position China as a strategic market, aiming to expand sales through new product development and launch.
